Whizzer and Chips started life on 18th October 1969. Fleetway couldn't compete with the Beano and Dandy's prices,so they claimed it as 2 comics in 1 - only 6d! It worked, so Whizzer and Chips began it's long life. Whizzer and chips had it's first summer special in 1970 (Which cost 3d) and its first annual 1971, both featuring Sid and Slippy, from Sid's snake. Then, in 1973, Knockout died. It joined forces with Whizzer and Chips 30th June - 3 comics in 1!Two free gifts were given away to celebrate - Sid's school smiles and Shiners holiday humour - joke books. Knockout was soon forgotten however, and it was soon erased from the title. Below: Last Knockout (top). First Whizzer and chips inc. Knockout. Then, in 1978, Krazy comic packed up. It too joined Whizzer and chips - on 22nd April. Last Krazy (above). First Whizzer and Chips inc. Krazy (below). Countless comics kept coming and going, such as School fun, monster fun, wow, Shiver and shake etc. None of them joined Whizzer and Chips, until 1985. First Whoopee (above). Whoopee was Fleetways third longest running comic, and it packed up and joined Whizzer and Chips on the week following 6th April 1985. With it came many classics such as Boy Boss, bookworm, calculator kid, the bumpkin billionaires and more.

In 1989, Whizzer and chips did one last merge - with the scarce scouse mouse comic. The sub-title was dropped after 6 issues, and the scouse mouse stories were dropped in early 1990.Scouse Mouse issue 5, March 1989 (Above).

A few years later Whizzer and Chips changed their logo for the last time, to a more modern, computerise design. By 1990, it was just one comic and was filled with reprints. Then, on 27th October 1990, it too packed up, becoming Fleetway's second most popular title. It joined the companies only surving comic - Buster. First Buster Whizzer and chips (above). Last Buster with Whizzer and chips (below).Buster struggled on until 1995, when it became fortnightly. It too started featuring reprints on almost every other page. But still it struggled on through the decade. At the turn of the century however, it died. Buster was last sold on 4th January 2000. Final issue of Buster (above).
